The West Kalimantan Province, designated as a REDD+ pilot region since 2010, has developed key elements for REDD+ implementation including a Provincial REDD+ strategy, a sub-national MRV system, and a REDD+ working group. To enhance investment and manage associated risks for a blended finance scheme, a multi-criteria analysis is being conducted. This analysis overlays critical maps—such as HCV/HCS areas, spatial planning, and land management—to identify guidance on go and no-go areas, priority zones, and the highest and best uses (HBU) of land. The study produced several key maps to aid land management and investment. The Prediction Deforestation in 2035 map assesses future deforestation risks, classifying areas as high, moderate, or medium risk. The Deforestation Risk Mills map combines deforestation predictions with palm oil supply and demand data, categorizing risk levels as high, moderate, or low. The Go and No-Go Areas map, created through multi-criteria analysis of forest state, HCV categories, and land cover, identifies areas for permitted versus restricted use. The Landscape Design PPI map integrates these elements to classify areas into conservation, restoration, and sustainable production zones. Together, these maps provide a comprehensive framework for strategic land use and sustainable investment.
